Creating equitable conditions in which everyone can thrive and feel that they belong is a central part of Mudiad Meithrin’s vision.
We believe that Welsh belongs to everyone, so our work in the field of equity and inclusivity goes hand-in-hand with our mission to widen access to Welsh-medium care and early education.
Adopting anti-racist modes of operation is all important to Mudiad Meithrin. We will not tolerate racism. We are proud to work with our partners to achieve the aims of the Welsh Government ‘Anti Racist Wales Action Plan’.
Our work in this field includes:
- Ensuring that our workspace offers a welcome to all, and our workforce understands the importance of equity and anti-racism.
- Maintaining services that are representative and promote inclusivity.
- Supporting cylchoedd and nurseries to develop their practice so that people from every background belongs to and becomes part of the setting.
- Working jointly with partners to develop our understanding of the challenges facing people who identify with one of the protected characteristics under the Equality Act 2020 (e.g. disability, religion, race, sexual orientation, age).
Mudiad Meithrin has a Lead Officer who heads the equity and inclusivity work, who is available to offer advice and support to staff and settings on policy matters pertaining to anti-racism, inclusivity and diversity: Menna Machreth (Mudiad Meithrin’s Lead Officer for Diversity, Equality and Inclusion): menna.machreth@meithrin.cymru.
In 2019, Mudiad Meithrin published an Equality and Diversity Strategy for the first time, and in 2023 an Evaluation of the Strategy was published, recording and evaluating the work carried out as a result of the Strategy. In 2024, Mudiad Meithrin published a new scheme which continues with the journey towards being an anti-racist, equitable organisation where everybody feels that they belong.
