Mudiad Meithrin is proud of its work publishing books for children noting that the first publication emerged in the 1970s. In recent years, Mudiad Meithrin has addressed the obvious lack of books in Welsh for children by authors representative of Wales’s diverse people and communities.

This has involved several different schemes: AwDUron, AwDUra (which saw the publication of new, original books by Theresa Mgadzah Jones, Chantelle Moore and Mili Williams) and working with individual authors such as Marva Carty, Natalie Jones, Dr Nuria Gonzales Gomes, and Jessica Dunrod.

Mudiad is proud to announce the re-publication of ‘Dy Wallt yw Dy Goron’ by Jessica Dunrod. ‘Dy Wallt yw Dy Goron’ is an evocative story that celebrates heritage, cynefin, pride in one’s identity and introduces the reader to characters Hope, Dewi the dragon and Affrodite. It teaches young children to be proud of themselves and to celebrate their uniqueness.

Author Jessica Dunrod said:

I am delighted that ‘Dy Wallt yw Dy Goron’ has found a home with Mudiad Meithrin and will be republished on St. Kitts and Nevis Independence Day, 19th September, 2024 which provides some of the backdrop to the story

Some of my proudest achievements over the last couple of years have emerged from working in partnership with Mudiad Meithrin on various projects with the objective to diversify Welsh language literature and educational resources for children and Welsh learners.

A few years ago I had no other option than to self-publish what became, as described by ‘Books for Keeps’, the only picture book “explicitly set in Wales to feature a non-White character”.

Mudiad Meithrin were the first to support my work and agree that every child deserves to feel and speak Welsh and enjoy the magic of reading.”

Mudiad Meithrin CEO Dr Gwenllian Lansdown Davies said:

Mudiad Meithrin believes that all children deserve to become confident Welsh speakers.

It’s vitally important that children have lots of books in Welsh in their schools and childcare settings. The diversification of the bookshelf means ensuring books by different voices.

We are proud to publish the second edition of ‘Dy Wallt yw Dy Goron’ knowing that children will love the magic in the words and the beautiful imagery”.
