Hud y Lleisiau Bach (The Magic of the Little Voices) – A Premiere to Celebrate the Welsh Language at the National Eisteddfod in Wrexham

Wrexham is ready to shine at this year’s National Eisteddfod as local Cylch Meithrin children step onto the big screen with a special short Welsh film: Hud y Lleisiau Bach – The Magic of the Little Voices: Exploring Wrexham’s Cylchoedd. The film will be shown for the first time on Sunday, August 3rd at 2:00pm in the Emporium (Children’s Village), and everyone is invited to attend the screening.

In the film, Dewin and Doti (Mudiad Meithrin’s lovable children’s characters) travel around Wrexham county, searching for the magic of the little Welsh voices to power their Balalŵn (as it is powered by the Welsh language) – so they can fly to the Eisteddfod! On their journey, they meet children who sing, play, and celebrate the magic of their communities. From quiet hills to the historic football stadium, from the fields of Acton Park to the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct, the film shows that the Welsh language is alive in every corner of the county.

Fflur Dafydd, Project Leader for the Dewin a Doti Channel, said:
“It’s been a pleasure visiting all the Cylchoedd Meithrin in Wrexham and getting to know around 200 of the area’s youngest funny and sweet characters! The film is a wonderful way to celebrate the cylchoedd and their communities and it will be available on the Dewin a Doti YouTube Channel in August so that everyone can enjoy it after the special premiere at the Eisteddfod. Come and celebrate the magical little Welsh voices heard throughout Wrexham.”

The film is full of music, laughter, and creativity – with scenes of children singing, playing instruments, dancing, painting, and enjoying a picnic in the woods, showing that Welsh language and culture are alive in the county.

In addition to the special film screening, there will be a colourful parade of local families and staff carrying Cylch Meithrin banners across the Eisteddfod field at 11:30am, ending at the main stage where the Jambori Meithrin show – a fun-filled performance of singing and entertainment for the whole family – will take place to delight the children.

Ceri Edwards, North-East Regional Manager, said:
“The Cylchoedd Meithrin have been busy rehearsing the different songs that will be part of the film, and the children have loved the experience of being screen stars! The colourful banners they’ve been creating will be a sight to see as they parade to celebrate Welsh-medium education at the Eisteddfod.”

All children and their families attending the Eisteddfod on the Sunday are welcome to join the parade across the field and enjoy the show on the stage.
