Mudiad Meithrin’s vision is for every child in Wales to be able to learn and play through the medium of Welsh. By giving the Welsh language to the young children of Wales, we hope to unify a nation and build a vibrant, open and multi-cultural Welsh community.

With the local elections on the horizon, Mudiad Meithrin is asking all political parties to prioritise the future of young children in Wales by vowing to:

  • Consider the impact of every Council decision on the lives of children in the Early Years
  • Work to ensure that every child in their Ward can access childcare and education in Welsh to contribute to the goal of having one million Welsh speakers
  • Work to improve access to ‘Dechrau’n Deg’ (Flying Start) to improve the life chances of children.

Dr Gwenllian Lansdown Davies, Mudiad Meithrin’s Chief Executive said:

“As an organization passionate about giving every child in Wales the best start, we have sent a copy of these pledges to every political party in Wales to share with their candidates and asking them to commit to the these promises. We challenge all prospective County Councilors to act in favor of childcare and Welsh-medium education and fulfill the commitment of the collaboration agreement in favor of childcare provision in Welsh. There is a long way to go in fulfilling the dream of every child leaving the education system as confident Welsh speakers.”
