Dewin and Doti Celebration Week 2025 – March 24-29

Mudiad Meithrin is proud to announce Dewin and Doti Celebration Week, which takes place throughout Wales from March 24^th – 29^th this year. The week will be an opportunity to celebrate Dewin and Doti, Mudiad Meithrin’s lovable children’s characters (originally inspired by a similar character in Basque Country), whose purpose is to encourage the use of Welsh in a playful and fun way due to their popularity among children attending the Cylchoedd Meithrin (Welsh-medium playgroups) across the country.

As part of the celebrations during Dewin and Doti Celebration Week, we encourage our Cymraeg for Kids groups, Cylchoedd Ti a Fi, Cylchoedd Meithrin and day nurseries to take part in three specific activities:

• Ras Baent Piws (Purple Paint Race) –  to organise a race using purple powder paint to raise money for the cylch or nursery.
• Parti Piws (Purple Party) – to celebrate Dewin and Doti by holding a purple-themed party at their setting.
• Dewin’s Trainer Competition – to create trainers for Dewin so he can take part in the race! The winning cylch/nursery will receive a £200 prize, as well as a visit from Dewin and the film crew from the Dewin a Doti Youtube Channel. Dr. Gwenllian Lansdown Davies, CEO of Mudiad Meithrin, said:

“We are really looking forward to celebrating Dewin and Doti at the end of March this year. A variety of merchandise and resources are now available to have fun with our loveable characters. This week will be an opportunity to remind our members of all the resources available to them to bring Dewin and Doti, and therefore the Welsh language, to life in the lives of the children in their care. Hosting the Purple Paint Race (Ras Baent Piws) as part of the celebrations is also an opportunity for the Cylchoedd Meithrin and nurseries to raise money for their settings in a fun way by bringing the local community together to support them.”

A resource pack and poster to promote the Ras Baent Piws has been posted out to all our members and further resources and information are available on our website – Celebrating Dewin and Doti Week – Meithrin.
