Mudiad Meithrin, an organisation passionate about giving children the opportunity to learn, play and grow through the medium of Welsh, is delighted to announce that young children from Cylchoedd Ti a Fi, Cylchoedd Meithrin (playgroups) and day nurseries across Anglesey will come together to form the World’s Largest Nursery Choir at this year’s Urdd National Eisteddfod in Anglesey to sing Pen-blwydd Hapus (Happy Birthday) to Mistar Urdd, who celebrates his 50th birthday this year.
At 12:00 noon on Saturday, 23 May, in the Adlen, the choir of children under five will be led by local musician Catrin Angharad Jones. The children will perform the song “Hei Mistar Urdd” to invite Mistar Urdd onto the stage before singing Pen-blwydd Hapus (Happy Birthday) in honour of his milestone year.
Haf Rowlands, Mudiad Meithrin’s Regional Manager for North-west Wales, said:
“As Mistar Urdd turns 50 this year, Dewin and Doti, along with children from our cylchoedd and day nurseries on Anglesey, were keen to do something special to celebrate the occasion.
“The idea came about to invite everyone, including children visiting the Eisteddfod, to sing Pen-blwydd Hapus to him in the Adlen pavilion on the Saturday morning of the Eisteddfod. We hope that hundreds of children and their families will come together to create the ‘World’s Largest Nursery Choir’! Any child and their family visiting the Eisteddfod on Saturday morning is warmly invited to join us in the Adlen and be part of this special choir – come along and join in the fun!”
Catrin Angharad Jones added:
“I am so proud that the Mudiad Meithrin has asked me to lead the World’s Largest Meithrin Choir! It will be lovely to see young children across Wales coming together to sing happy birthday to one of the nation’s greatest heroes! Thank you to the Mudiad Meithrin for the vision of holding such an event for the first time at the Urdd Eisteddfod in Anglesey.”
The choir performance will follow the official launch of the Dewin and Doti Show with the Welsh Whisperer, which takes place at 11:30am in the Adlen that same morning.
The Dewin and Doti Show is touring Wales over the coming weeks. This year’s show, titled “Ar y Fferm’ (On the Farm), follows the Welsh Whisperer as he visits Grandad’s farm, helping to search for missing animals with the help of Dewin and Doti. Tickets for several venues across North Wales have already sold out, making the Eisteddfod premiere of the show a fantastic opportunity for those who missed out on tickets to enjoy the show as part of Mudiad Meithrin’s programme of events at the Urdd Eisteddfod this year.
