At the Mudiad’s Annual General Meeting on Tuesday 22nd November, it was announced that Dr Catrin Edwards will succeed Dr Rhodri Llwyd Morgan as the new Chair of Mudiad Meithrin.

Catrin is a third sector leader whose expertise is public policy and external affairs in care. She has over a decade of experience developing national organisations and influencing policy to implement rights. Her experience in the third sector includes additional learning needs, disability, end of life care along with language planning.

Catrin is a mother of two young children and lives with her family in Cardiff where she was a member of the Cylch Meithrin Y Parc committee for a time. She is a proud member of the Board of Mudiad Meithrin since 2021.

Catrin said at the beginning of her tenure:

“It is a privilege to chair the Board of Mudiad Meithrin over the next period. We look back with pride to the half century of success and growth, and forward to the challenges we face in the half century to come. Many thanks to Rhodri Llwyd Morgan who hands over the reins to me on a period of six prosperous years in charge. We owe Rhodri a great debt.”

During the meeting the Mudiad Meithrin Annual Report for the period 2021-2022 was presented and gave an opportunity to celebrate the fact that the numbers data of children attending Cylchoedd Meithrin have increased once again this year returning to their pre-Covid numbers. This is encouraging and shows that the sector has survived the period.

Dr Gwenllian Lansdown Davies, Chief Executive of Mudiad Meithrin, said:

“It is gratifying to report that the numbers of children attending the Cylchoedd Meithrin have increased once again this year. We would like to say a big thank you to all the staff and volunteers on the ground who have supported the cylchoedd and enabled us to see this swift recovery.”

Catrin added:
“Ensuring that the Welsh language, and therefore the Mudiad, belongs to every community where there are young children is an ambition that we must fulfil. We do this through partnering and collaboration, and I look forward to supporting the Board, the Chief Executive and all staff of the Mudiad to get on with it! “
