Mudiad Meithrin’s Board of Directors wishes to announce that they have appointed Dr Catrin Edwards to succeed Dr Gwenllian Lansdown Davies as the Mudiad’s new Chief Executive.

Dr Rhodri Llwyd Morgan, Chair of Mudiad Meithrin’s Board of Directors said; “We are very pleased to announce Catrin’s appointment as Chief Executive Officer of Mudiad Meithrin. Catrin is already highly knowledgeable about Mudiad’s work having served as Chair, and her substantial experience and expertise in the areas of care and language planning make her perfectly suited to lead the work and mission of the Mudiad into the future.”

Catrin is a leader in the third sector with expertise in public policy and external affairs in the field of care. She has over a decade of experience in developing national membership organisations and influencing policy to put rights into practice. Her experience in the third sector includes additional learning needs, disability, end-of-life care, as well as language planning. Catrin is mother to three young children and lives with her family in Cardiff. She was a proud member of the Mudiad Meithrin’s Board of Directors from 2021 to August 2025, serving as Chair.

Catrin said,

“It is a true privilege and honour to be appointed to this role and to join an organisation that lies at the heart of Welsh life, playing a vital role in welcoming children and families to the Welsh language”

“Given the early years are the most formative in acquiring language and laying the foundations for life opportunities, the vital role of Mudiad Meithrin as a vibrant force for fairness and inclusion—rooted in communities across Wales—cannot be overstated.”

“I’m excited to work with our central staff and the dedicated workforce across our Cylchoedd to ensure that Welsh is present wherever young children are—a natural part of their lives from the very beginning.”

Rhodri added,

“Looking forward to a new chapter with Catrin at the helm, it is also an opportunity to thank Dr Gwenllian Lansdown Davies for her enormous contribution to Mudiad Meithrin during the eleven years she served as Chief Executive. Gwenllian demonstrated exceptional leadership throughout her tenure, successfully stimulating the growth and development of our provision so that the services of Mudiad Meithrin and its members could reach more families than ever before. As a Board of Directors, we wish Gwenllian well in her new challenge and are immensely grateful for her work on behalf of the Mudiad and the Welsh language, and in promoting the welfare and care of young children and families in Wales.”

Catrin will take up the reins mid December 2025.
