As an organisation that’s passionate about providing Welsh language experiences to children in Wales, Mudiad Meithrin would like to invite you to the official launch of Sianel Dewin a Doti at 11:30 a.m on Tuesday 28th May on the Mudiad Meithrin stand at the Urdd National Eisteddfod held at Meifod this year.

Dewin and Doti are the well-known, lovable Mudiad Meithrin characters, and they will be a core element of the channel’s content (https://www.youtube.com/@dewinadoti). The channel was established at the beginning of March earlier this year and has already gained momentum and excitement within the Mudiad’s communities as the children attending Cylchoedd Meithrin (Welsh-medium playgroups) and day nurseries star in the videos of this new channel.

This project was made possible due to receiving a £497,000 grant from the National Lottery’s Community Fund and has enabled the Mudiad to appoint a team of three new members of staff, who are responsible for planning, promoting, and producing a library of 120 videos aimed at young children and their families over the course of three years.

The team of three began their posts at the beginning of January:

  • Fflur Dafydd (Digital Project Leader)
  • Rhodri Williams (Senior Filming and Editing Officer)
  • Gwenno Haf Jones (Digital Marketing Officer).

Fflur Dafydd, Project Leader, said:

“I am delighted to be part of this exciting project. There is so much support and excitement for the project within the Mudiad and it’s a privilege to be a part of it. Since we started the project, we have been working with the Mudiad’s local communities across Wales to produce content that will celebrate our culture and language while bringing Welsh into the homes of young children and their families.”

Since the channel has become live on YouTube, the 14 videos currently posted have gained over 60,000 views collectively.

Dr Gwenllian Lansdown Davies, Chief Executive of Mudiad Meithrin said:

“It’s very heartwarming to see the excitement the channel has created at grass root level with a number of our Cylchoedd Meithrin and primary schools recognising it as a very valuable resource to bring the Welsh language to life for families. Since the team was set up, they have filmed at two day nurseries, 5 Cylch Meithrin and created a series of videos with Dewin’s new friend Cochyn – who is Scarlets rugby team mascot!”

Rob Roffe, Head of Mid and West Region said,
“Congratulations to Mudiad Meithrin on launching Sianel Dewin a Doti. It’s lovely to see the creative work you’ve achieved to promote the Welsh language amongst young children and their families in these videos. The National Lottery Community Fund is the largest funder of community activity in the UK giving out more than £30million a week. Grants are made possible thanks to the players of the National Lottery.”
