Following an open process, members of the public were invited to apply to join Mudiad Meithrin’s Board of Directors. The Mudiad is very proud to announce that two new members have been appointed to our Board of Directors, namely Owen Derbyshire and Helen Roddick, and Melanie Owen is a new member of our Finance Sub-committee.
Owen Derbyshire is Chief Executive of Keep Wales Tidy and he sits on a number of boards across the private, public and charity sectors, including S4C, Shelter Cymru, Promo Cymru, The Welsh Partnership Council (Welsh Government) and a number of others (see additional notes below).
Helen Roddick comes from Cardiff and graduated with degrees in French, Spanish and latterly in Law, and is now practising as a Barrister in Cardiff. In addition to being a chair of a Cylch Meithrin committee for years she has also delivered training to committees across Wales on behalf of Mudiad Meithrin.
Helen said,
“Based on my long service working with the Cylch Meithrin I have a strong understanding of the work and requirements of the Board of Directors. I appreciate the importance of every single Cylch Meithrin and the difference they make to our communities.”
A new person has also been appointed to the Finance Sub-committee, namely Melanie Owen. Melanie is an entrepreneur who launched her career with the creation of an award-winning business, ‘House 21’. Melanie has been a columnist for ‘The National’ newspaper, penning a piece on the racism experienced by Meghan Markle (which went viral in the United States). As well as writing, Melanie presents the program Ffermio and is a comedienne.
Melanie said,
“It’s an honour to join the Finance Sub-Committee and to add to the vital work delivered by Mudiad Meithrin.”
Gwenllian Lansdown Davies, Chief Executive of Mudiad Meithrin, said:
“The contribution of volunteers is one of Mudiad Meithrin’s big strengths and that is true on a national level as well as being core to our grassroots provision. We are fortunate that our organisation is able to attract individuals willing to give of their time and expertise. It is therefore a pleasure to welcome Owen, Helen and Melanie to serve as members of the Board of Directors and the Finance Sub-committee, and we’re sure that we’ll benefit greatly from their various talents.”
