Mudiad Meithrin releases video to attract non-Welsh speaking parents to Welsh-medium education

On Friday, 5 November Mudiad Meithrin launched a video aimed specifically at non-Welsh speaking parents to encourage them to choose Welsh-medium education through the Cylch Meithrin for their children.

Sponsorship was received from the Cronfa Glyndŵr fund to produce the video filmed at Cylch Meithrin Coed Duon and Cylch Meithrin Nelson.

A number of parents share their experiences of their children’s Welsh-medium education journey noting that there is plenty of support available for non-Welsh speaking parents when their child has transferred from the Cylch Meithrin to the school e.g. the homework and letters are available bilingually, a host of apps such as Duolingo and Dewin and Doti apps are also available to name just a few, and a number of parents have indicated that they have learnt the language along side with their children.

Ruth Corney Cylch Meithrin Nelson’s co-leader noted:

“Mudiad Meithrin has been running for 50 years this year and people are aware of the high standard of childcare and education that’s expected in each Cylch Meithrin and how the Cylch enriches and supports their Welsh-medium education before they continue their Welsh-medium education at the local school.”

A lot of parents who don’t speak Welsh want their children to speak Welsh and so feel that the Cylch Meithrin is the best start for them.

Sharon Lewis-Connolly is also a co-leader at Cylch Meithrin Nelson and commented:

“I’ve always thought – Why wouldn’t you want your child to learn an extra skill? We give them additional linguistic skills – and they can use those skills with any other language as well.”
